Unravelling the combined effect of cooling rate and microalloying on the microstructure and tribological performance of Cu50Zr50

The combined effect of the cooling rate and microalloying has been studied from suction casted Cu50Zr50, Cu49.5Zr50Fe0.5 Cu49Zr50Fe1 at. % rods 2 mm 4 diameter. For samples, ∼1000 K/s rate, microstructure mostly consists B2 CuZr austenite it is basically same for all compositions. However, 0.5 Fe addition promotes formation stress-induced B19’ martensite upon wear testing thus improving resistance alloy. ∼250 a multiphase intermetallic predominant when microalloyed with Fe, relatively large volume fraction as-cast B33 formed resulting in reduction resistance. At high mechanism predominantly delamination while low continuous grooves are indicative abrasive wear.
